The Art Exhibition May 2018

A few years ago, I decided to pluck up the courage to actually apply to be part of an exhibition. Something very much out of my comfort zone. I never thought for one minute I would be accepted as there are normally large amounts of artists that apply for these kinds of things.

To my surprise I was accepted, the next stage was to try and find a local venue that would be prepared for me to exhibit my works on their premises. I found a wonderful venue called the South Bank Club based in Bristol.

This was the first time I had actually ever exhibit any of work, as you can imagine, I was extremely nervous and anxious as to what was in front of me, as I have always relied on the big wide web to display my work and I have never been in the position where I would be on hand to talk about my works..

So much work has to go into preparing yourself for a show, framing, discussions on what works will be displayed, how much wall space would be needed. Timings in regards to when you could have access to the venue to be able to set up and display your work.

I remember talking to a close friend, and asking “Do you think it would be possible to find someone who would be happy to “ghost” for me, as I was feeling more and more anxious as the date approached. I remember the day I was supposed to be taking my works to the venue, (as I worked full time in an office I had to take them to work with me, and they were in a huge huddle under my desk) to set up ready for the following day, I kept thinking to myself, is it to late to cancel and not do the exhibition.

Thankfully, I did set up and attend in person, what an amazing nerve raking, special memory I will always have.

Throughout the weekend I meet many talented artists, and people that spent time talking to be about my works. I received lots of feedback in regards to my works, which is what I wanted, I found it really interesting how people saw different things in the images in front of them. It was refreshing to see families there, talking openly amongst themselves and their children, none of this cloak and dagger hiding that is rife on Social media.

I was lucky enough to have the great support of my husband, and my Mum-in-law.  This was probably one of the biggest things I have done in regards to advertising my works. Their support and encouragement has always been never ending.

Sadly, my mum–In– Law has since passed, but I have this wonderful memory that will always remind me how much she thought of me, the endless support, encouragement and love, and this will forever stay with me
